| Abstract/Description: |
The Lake Taupo Accord definition of this value is “the lake supports a diverse range of ecosystems and natural habitats for native and introduced flora and fauna.” This review is focussed on the habitat and diversity of several groups of organisms that have not been included in other reviews. These include the invertebrate fauna (animals without a backbone, for example snails, insects and worms that live in lakes and streams) of streams, rivers and lakes, and native fish and aquatic birds. The habitat and diversity issues for the Lake Taupo trout fishery, aquatic plants and the terrestrial and wetland areas have been covered in the 2020 Taupo-nui-a-Tia project reports on the values of ‘Good Trout Fishing’, ‘Weed Free Lake’, and ‘Wilderness Areas’, respectively. |
