To determine the composition of the phytoplankton populations in Lake Taupo |
| Rationale: |
Blooms of blue-green algae have been increasingly recorded in Lake Taupo in recent years. In March 2003 levels of blue-green algae exceeded recreational guideline values in some areas prompting the issue of a health warning. Samples are collected over the summer to identify the types of algae present and their numbers. The results will be provided to Medical Officer of Health to take appropriate action. |
