To characterise habitat quality and biodiversity in streams and rivers and to assess changes over time. |
| Rationale: |
Assessment of stream physical habitat quality and sampling of macroinvertebrate community assemblages on an annual basis. Combining habitat and biological data allows the calculation of an index of stream ecological health at each monitored site. 10 sites are monitored in the Taupo catchment. Where possible, this data is integrated with physical and chemical water quality monitoring and fish surveys. Commenced 1994. |
