| (B) 5 Dairy Farming on Pumice Soils |
| Objective: |
To evaluate the appropriateness of the current Environment Waikato guidelines for farm dairy effluent management on the light pumice soils of the Taupo/Reporoa area. |
| Rationale: |
The investigation is designed to provide information about the amount of nitrogen loss under dairying on pumice soils and provide some management guidelines and mitigation measures. The trial is a replication of four treatments: normal dairying: dairying with shed effluent applied; dairying with fresh water irrigation; and dairying with shed effluent and water irrigation. Commenced October 1998. Study completed in July 2003.
